Lakers History:
The Lakers are the only team in the NBA to wear home uniforms that are not primarily white. Since the 2002-03 season, however, the team has worn white jerseys on Sunday and holiday home games. The white jerseys were designed by Lakers owner Jerry Buss' daughter, Jeannie Buss in a tribute to the late Chick Hearn, who was considered by most to be the voice of the team for forty years, until his death in August 2002.

Unusually, on November 2, 2007, on an away game against the Phoenix Suns, the Lakers wore their modern home gold uniforms against their opponent in a blowout game, while the Suns wore their orange away uniforms. Also, the team wore their home gold uniforms on the road in their December 23, 2007 game against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden as opposed to their purple away uniforms, but both the Lakers and the Knicks were wearing throwback uniforms during the game, so the Lakers home gold uniforms were older versions. (The Knicks themselves wore white uniforms in the game.)
Coincidentially, this would be the game that Kobe Bryant would surpass Wilt Chamberlain as the youngest player in NBA history to reach 20,000 points. Similarly, they wore the gold uniforms in a game against the Sixers two nights before with both teams again wearing throwback uniforms. However, during their January 31 game at Detroit, the Lakers wore their regular purple road jerseys despite the fact that it was a "Hardwood Classics Nights" game, with the Pistons wearing their 1958 home jerseys.
In a home game vs. the Boston Celtics on December 30, 2007, the Lakers again wore their gold throwbacks, but wore short shorts from the 1980s in the first half and returned to the longer ones for the second half.
In a home game vs the Golden State Warriors on March 24, 2008, the Lakers wore their white jerseys with the Spanish word "los" on the top of the word Lakers which spelled "Los Lakers", like the Phoenix Suns and the San Antonio Spurs had done in weeks prior. These uniforms, along with the Miami Heat's "El Heat" jerseys, were intended to pay tribute to the Hispanic roots of the representative cities.
The Laker colors in Minneapolis were white at home and light blue with yellow trim on the road. After moving to Los Angeles for the 1960-61 NBA season, the team colors were blue, light blue, and white. The team switched to purple and gold in the late 1960s.

Los Angeles Lakers, professional basketball team and one of seven teams in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Lakers play at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, and wear uniforms of royal purple and gold. Originally based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the team takes its name from that state’s slogan, “Land of 10,000 Lakes.” The Lakers were already a power in professional basketball when they became charter members of the newly formed NBA in 1949. Their continuing success has made them one of the most celebrated franchises in professional sports. The club has won 14 NBA championships, including 5 in the 1980s, and leads the league with a record 27 appearances in the NBA Finals. In 1971-72 the Lakers' 33-game winning streak set a professional sports record for consecutive wins.
The Lakers have boasted such superstars as George Mikan, Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal, and Kobe Bryant. Centers Mikan, Chamberlain, and Abdul-Jabbar each retired as the league's top all-time scorer, while Johnson ranked first in career assists at his retirement.
The Minneapolis Lakers joined the National Basketball League (NBL) in 1947. With Mikan, a 6 ft 10 in (2.1 m) center, leading the league in scoring, the Lakers captured the 1948 NBL title. The Lakers then moved to the Basketball Association of America (BAA) and won the 1949 BAA title. The NBL and BAA merged to become the NBA after the 1948-49 season, and in the five seasons from 1949-50 through 1953-54, the Lakers collected four championships.
The Lakers' dominance ended in 1954, when Mikan retired and the league introduced the 24-second shot clock and a limit on personal fouls. The rules changes led to a faster-paced game, and the club had difficulty adjusting. A 19-53 win-loss mark in 1957-58 was the worst in team history.
